Know Satan's tricks

Know Satan's tricks

If we are to distinguish our friends from our enemies we need proper and authentic knowledge originating from Quran and the Sunnah. Our weapons are our knowledge, our skill is our faith and our strength is our courage and determination to succeed in this battle.

Allaah
tabaarak ta wa ta’aala says:

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because You misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. [Soorah al-Hijr 15:39]

In order to overpower us, Satan strives against us while opposing all that we put into the battle. For instance, to deprive us of knowledge he beautifies ignorance; to deprive us of faith, he beautifies disbelief; and to deprive us of our courage and determination, he beautifies cowardice, laziness and hopelessness.

Allaah tabaarak ta wa ta’aala says:

"Then I [Iblis (Satan)] will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." [Soorah al-A'raaf 07:17]

The Language of the People of Paradise

The Language of the People of Paradise

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah Rahimullaah was asked: In what language will the people be spoken to on the Day of Resurrection? Will Allaah Ta’ala speak to the people in Arabic? Is it true that the language of the people of Hell-fire will be Persian and the language of the people of Paradise will be Arabic?

He Rahimullaah answered: All praise belongs to Allaah the Lord of all the worlds, it is not known in what language the people will be spoken to on that day, nor in which language they will hear the address of the Lord because Allaah Ta’ala did not inform us of anything about this, nor did His Messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam. It is not authentic that Persian is the language of the people of the Hell-fire or that Arabic is the language of the people who will be in eternal blessing.

We do not know of a dispute between the Companions Radi Allaahu anhum, rather all of them refrained from this, because speaking about these types of things is from futile speech . . . However, there occurred a dispute between the people who came later so some of them said that: the people will converse in Arabic. Others said: No, the people of Hell-fire will reply in Persian and it is their language in Hell-fire. Others said: They will converse with Syriac (an Eastern Aramaic language) because it is the language of Adam and from it all other languages branched off. Others said: No, the people of Paradise will speak Arabic. There is no basis any of these opinions by those who hold them, neither intellectual nor transmitted, rather it is a claim devoid of evidence and Allaah Subhana wa Ta’ala is most Knowledgeable and most Just.

The type of person you marry plays a big role in the type of children you have,
so do your unborn children a favor by choosing wisely.

Doing good to parents & honouring them directly after the Worship of Allaah

Doing good to parents & honouring them directly after the Worship of Allaah

Allaah tabaarak ta wa ta’aala says:

"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. ..." [Soorah al-Israa 17:23]

"Worship Allah and join none with Him (in worship); and do good to parents, ..." [Soorah an-Nisaa 04:36]

"And (remember) when We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, (saying): Worship none but Allah (Alone) and be dutiful and good to parents, ..." [Soorah al-Baqarah 02.83]

"Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; ..." [Soorah al-An'aam 06:151]

Always leave loved ones with loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.

The companions of the Prophet sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam used to weep out of fear of Allah

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) delivered a Khutbah to us the like of which I had never heard from him before. In the course of the Khutbah, he said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much". Thereupon those present covered their faces and began to sob. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Commentary:  This Hadith has been mentioned in this chapter for the reason that it furnishes positive proof of the fact that the Companions of the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) used to weep out of fear of Allah when they heard sermons and preaching's. It induces us to follow them.

Two things help success in life.
The way you manage when you have nothing and
the way you behave when you have everything.

Voluntary Deeds

Voluntary Deeds

Allah the Almighty has said, My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

On the authority of Abu Huraira who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Allah the Almighty has said, My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him." [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

Allah, the Creator and Fashioner of humans, has obligated certain deeds. Those are deeds that are needed by all humans for the purification of their souls. Beyond those deeds, though, Allah has left the door wide open for individuals to concentrate on those deeds that they are most inclined to. For example, some people are dedicated to their voluntary prayers. Other may be attracted to fasting, charity or the pilgrimage.

There are others who are more inclined to doing good toward others. They perform the obligatory deeds and then beyond that they spend their time tending to others needs. When these people tend to those matters, they become the key by which they come closer to Allah and enter Paradise.

This reality is all by the mercy of Allah. Beyond the obligatory deeds, people are free to pursue those good voluntary deeds that they are most attracted to. There are so many areas of voluntary deeds that it seems inconceivable that a person could not find some voluntary deed or deeds that she would like to perform in order to get closer to Allah. Allah's path to paradise is wide enough to accommodate all of those different leanings. However, this is all dependent on the individual first fulfilling, in general, the obligatory deeds.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR:
A true believer will not be at ease whilst his neighbour is suffering, hungry or in need, even if he belongs to a different faith.
If it is an obligation to be kind to our neighbours, imagine the sin of causing harm, distress & discomfort to them.
"He will not enter Paradise, whose neighbour is not safe from his harm."

Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Allaah Ta’ala said: "Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!" [2:201]

Al-Hasan said: al-Hasana (good) in the Dunyaa is knowledge and worship, and in the Hereafter it is Paradise.
Sufyan said: al-Hasana (good) in the Dunyaa is knowledge and good provision, and in the Hereafter Paradise.

If those without children complained about not having children,
those with only boys complained about not having girls,
those with only girls complained about not having boys and
those with both complained about how much of a handful they are,
then who is going to show gratitude & satisfaction with the Divine Decree of the Almighty?
Always be thankful to Allaah.

The love of Allah signiffies the sweetness of Imaan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, "There are three qualities whoever has them, will taste the sweetness of Iman: To love Allah and His Messenger (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) more than anyone else; to love a slave (of Allah)only for (the sake of) Allah; and to abhor returning to infidelity after Allah has saved him from it as he would abhor to be thrown into the fire(of Hell)". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Commentary:
1. In this Hadith, the love of Allah signifies the sweetness of Iman.
2. The love of Allah and His Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) is the cornerstone of the Faith. When it is said that this love should exceed one's love for everything else in the universe, it means that what is enjoined by Allah and His Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) must be given preference over everything else, whether it is love for the wife, children, worldly interests, desires or whims. When there is a clash between the two, the former should be given preference over the latter.

Recognize if your Imaan is Increasing or Decreasing

Recognize if your Imaan is Increasing or Decreasing
By Shaykh Muhammad Amaan Al Jaami

Abu Dhar (radhi Allaahu anhu) said: Whoever does not know that his Imaan increases and decreases is not a person of understanding. Rather it is from understanding in the religion to notice if your Imaan is increasing or decreasing.

If you find yourself devoted to Allah, desiring that which is with Allah, and energetic in acts of worship, loving the righteous people and the gatherings of knowledge, this is an indication and a sign of your strong Imaan and your increase in Imaan.

And if you find yourself turning away and lazy, having no desire to recite the Book of Allah and remember Allah; and you find yourself always lagging behind in some acts worship and not desiring that which is with Allah, this is proof of your deficiency in Imaan. Therefore remedy and rectify yourself.

Strive today in implementing Tawheed,
since there is nothing that will deliver you to Allaah except Tawheed.
Also, be eager in fulfilling its rights,
since there is nothing that can save you from the fire except Tawheed.
Ibn Rajab – ‘Kalimat ul-Ikhlaas’ 54

So why not seek forgiveness?

So why not seek forgiveness?

O slave of Allaah, Allaah has opened the gate of repentance for you, so why not enter it?
It was reported that repentance has a gate whose width is like the distance between East and West [according to another report: its width is like the distance traveled in seventy years]. It will not be closed until the sun rises from the West. (Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer; see Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2177).

Listen to the call of Allaah: "O My slaves, you err night and day, but I forgive all sins, so ask Me for forgiveness and I will forgive you."(Reported by Muslim). So why not seek forgiveness?

Allaah stretches forth His hand at night to forgive those who have done wrong during the day, and He stretches forth His hand by day to forgive those who have done wrong during the night. Allaah loves our apologies and pleas, so why not turn to Him?

How beautiful to Allaah are the words of the one who repents:
"O Allaah, I ask You by Your power and by my own shame to have mercy on me. I ask You by Your strength and my own weakness, by Your self-sufficiency and my own dependence. To You I submit my lying, sinful forelock. You have many slaves besides me, but I have no Master except You. I have no refuge or escape from You except with You. I beseech you in the manner of a poor and destitute man, I pray to you with the prayer of one who is humble, I call upon you with the supplication of one who is blind and afraid. This is a plea from one whose head is humbled before You, whose nose is in the dust, whose eyes are filled with tears and whose heart has submitted to You."

The Shaytaan whispers to him that he is showing off so that he will give up doing acts of worship

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked:

When a person thinks of doing a good deed, the Shaytaan comes and whispers to him: You want to do that to show off and have a good reputation, so he backs off from doing that good deed. How can we avoid this?

He replied:

That can be avoided by seeking refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan, and going ahead with the good deed. You should not pay attention to this waswaas (whisper from the Shaytaan) that puts you off doing good. If you turn away from this and seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan, the problem will disappear, by Allah’s leave.

EXTRAVAGANCE IN OUR WEDDINGS:
Extravagance in our weddings where money is wasted, trends are set for people to follow,
those who cannot meet the set standards borrow money and live in debt for a long time to come,
food is wasted, only the rich & famous are invited, people are inappropriately dressed,
people try to outdo one another's functions etc.
are all actions that can significantly reduce the blessings in our marriages.
It is important for us to bear in mind the simplicity of such a function,
the invitation of poor and needy, the fulfillment of whatever pleases Allah & the abstention from whatever displeases Him.
Then we see the blessings in our marriages by the Will of Almighty.
Extravagance & wastefulness in any sphere of life is wrong.

The dunyaa is a prison for the mu’min

The dunyaa is a prison for the mu’min ...

It is mentioned that when al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr was the chief justice (of Egypt), one day he was passing through the market with a caravan, looking well groomed. So a Jew who was selling hot oil, looking very disheveled and dirty because of the oil, accosted him by grabbing the reins of his mule saying,
"Yaa Shaykhul-Islaam, you claim that your prophet said that the dunyaa is a prison for the mu’min and a jannah for the kaafir; so what type of prison are you in and what type of jannah am I in?"
He (Ibn Hajr) replied,
"Regarding what Allaah has prepared for me in the hereafter from its bliss, then it is as if I am in prison, and with regards to what Allaah has prepared for you in the hereafter from its punishment, then it is as if you are in jannah."
At which point the Jew became a Muslim.

The signs of a hypocrite are that when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks the promise,
when he is entrusted he betrays & when he is in an argument he screams & yells.
Hypocrisy is to display outwardly that which is contrary to the inward condition.
It is important that each one of us works very hard to identify such weaknesses within ourselves & remedy them as best as we can.
This will help purify the heart & make all our acts of worship much more satisfying & meaningful.
May the Almighty protect us from all forms of hypocrisy. Aameen.

Revive Your Faith

Revive Your Faith

A strong faith can help us to hold our heads high. When faith seems to be dwindling, we should get back to Quran and remind ourselves that only Allah can let us out of our ordeal and problems. You must, therefore, keep that faith and not let Satan instill thoughts that could weaken your faith. Allah says in the Quran:

"If Allah helps you, none can overcome you; and if He forsakes you, who is there after Him that can help you? And in Allah (Alone) let believers put their trust." [Soorah Aal-'Imraan 03:160]

A strong faith can keep you focused on the fact that Allah alone ultimately controls all destinies and has power over all things. Remembering that fact alone at the moment of affliction can help you in conquering the pain and provide you hope and the energy to keep moving forward.

Some people believe we must not be good or kind to those of other faiths.
This is a serious mistake. It is our duty to ensure that all human beings be treated fairly with kindness, genuineness and goodness.
It is also important that we be just and side with he who is correct even if he does not belong to our faith.
Justice and kindness result in portraying the true image of who we are and the values we stand for.
Those who believe that we should side with a family member, relative, friend, fellow worshiper, colleague etc even when he is wrong
have not understood the basic values and morals taught by the Almighty.
May our actions always be in line with whatever pleases the Almighty. Aameen.

The rewards of those who exercise patience will be doubled

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Allaah tabaarak ta wa ta’aala says:

"These will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided for them." [Soorah al-Qasas 28:54]

a) Narrated Abu Burdah's father: Allah's Messenger [sal-Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "Any man who has a slave-girl whom he educates properly, teaches good manners, manumits and marries her, will get a double reward. And if any man of the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) believes in his own Prophet and then believes in me (Muhammad [sal-Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam]) too, he will (also) get a double reward. And any slave who fulfills his duty to his master and to his Lord (Allah), will (also) get a double reward." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 7/5083 (O.P.20)]

In the same way that when traveling we ensure that our baggage does not exceed the airline weight limitation because of the fear of being penalised,
we should also ensure that we do not carry excess baggage into the journey of Hereafter.
The correct weight is achieved through prayer, forgiving others, letting go of sin & other negative issues that we have held onto far too long,
cleansing our hearts from jealousy, envy, hatred & evil thoughts, choosing the correct friends, assisting others,
improving our character & abstaining from foul language & oppression.
It is important to do a weight check before arriving at the ultimate scale of justice.

The Six Rights of Brotherhood

The Six Rights of Brotherhood

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be on him) said,

The right of the Muslim on the Muslim are six. It was said, What are they, Messenger of Allah? He said,

  1. If you meet him, greet him with salaam,
  2. if he invites you, accept the invitation,
  3. if he asks for advice, give him sincere advice,
  4. if he sneezes and praises Allaah, say Yarhamuk Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you),
  5. if he falls sick, visit him, and
  6. if he dies, attend his funeral.

FORGIVENESS & ANGER:
Forgiveness is not for the weak.
Being able to forgive those who have wronged you is a mark of spiritual strength and confidence.
When you forgive, you grow, your heart begins to heal, your back straightens up, your eyes clear so that you can see the road ahead.
Anger is a spiritual sickness; but when you forgive you live.

Great Women of Islam - Umm Sulaim bint Milhan Al-Ansariyyah

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When I entered the Paradise, I heard someone's footsteps - It was explained to me that she was Ghumiysa' bint Milhan."

She came from an illustrious family who sacrificed its all for Islam. Her son was the famous Companion Anas bin Malik and her brother was the eminent Companion Haram bin Milhan.
Her first marriage was unhappy; there were constant quarrels between husband and wife because she became a Muslim. Her husband, Malik bin Nadhar, tried his very best make her recant and give up the new religion to which she had vowed allegiance, but he failed and she remained loyal to her new faith. On the other hand she started persuading her son, Anas as well to convert to Islam, . Her persistence finally paid off, and Anas read the words signifying acceptance of Allah as the One Supreme Being and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as His Messenger.
There were frequent violent scenes in the house, but she stood her ground, patiently and calmly. Finally her husband left her and migrated to Syria where he was murdered. The Ansari ladies used to call her Sehlah, Ghumiysa', Rumiysa' Ramlah and Sahlah, but finally she came to be known only as Umm Sulaim.

After her husband's murder in Syria she dedicated her son, Anas to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Anas lived the next ten years of his life in his service, and these were the best years of his life. Umm Sulaim requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to supplicate to Allah for an increase in knowledge prosperity for him, both in this world and the next. And Allah answered his prayers in ample measure. Anas lived to the age of a hundred and three and had eighty children. He had a magnificent palace in Basrah and huge beautiful gardens. He was a fastidious man who loved to dress well and dye his hair with henna. Among his sons, many became learned scholars. After his death he became an heir to the gardens of Paradise.

In Al-Madinah there was a handsome young man called Abu Talhah, who was the leader of his tribe. He had not yet converted to Islam, but knew that the widow, Umm Sulaim had many admirable qualities. Her integrity, her loyalty, her courage, all of these appealed to him, and he sent her a proposal of marriage. She said it was not possible because she was a Muslim and he was a disbeliever. When he insisted she asked him what kind of a man he was; sometimes he worshipped trees growing in the earth, at other times he worshipped stone idols which other people carved out. She asked him if he had ever considered how these things could solve his problems when they were themselves helpless.

When Abu Talhah heard these arguments he had no answer. He tried his best to persuade her, but she was adamant. She told him that normally a proposal from a man of his stature would not be rejected, but she was helpless. She dedicated her life to Islam and he was, up to that time, deprived of this great blessing. Finally, he asked her if she would marry him if he converted to Islam. She was very happy at this; she said the Mahr (dowry) for her would be his acceptance of Islam, and told Anas to arrange for her marriage. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) often used to visit her and prayed for prosperity and the blessings of Allah for her.
Umm Sulaim had a happy second marriage and soon the couple was blessed with a son, Abu 'Umair.

One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited the house and found Abu 'Umair looking very dejected. He asked why the little boy was upset. Umm Sulaim told him that his pet bird, which he loved to play with, had died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) caressed him and tried to console him lovingly.
After some time Abu 'Umair fell sick, and one night his temperature shot up very high and he passed away. Umm Sulaim displayed exemplary patience and control. She did not inform anyone or scream and shout in her grief. She did not want to upset her husband when he came home after a hard day's work. On his return home, he asked her how the child was and she told him he was better then before. Then she served him dinner and chatted with him. When he had enjoyed himself in her company in peace and tranquility, she asked him "whether, if a person entrusted one with something, and then came to claim it, should one return it?" He answered "that certainly one should return it gladly." Then she took him to the room where the son was lying in a peaceful eternal sleep and said in a trembling voice" that Allah had taken back the son He had entrusted to their care."
In the morning they went to see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he prayed for Allah's blessings and prosperity for the couple. And soon another son was born to them. Anas carried him in his lap to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he softened a piece of a date and gave it to the newborn, and named him 'Abdullah. He prayed that Allah grant him prosperity. And by the grace of Allah when he grew up and married he had nine sons; all of them were memorizers of the Quran.

Anas narrates that his mother had a goat. One day she made ghee from its milk and collected it in a little leather bowl. When it was full she sent it as a gift for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her adopted daughter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), told his family to empty the bowl and return it with the little girl. She brought back the empty bowl and hung it by a nail on the kitchen wall.
Umm Sulaim saw that the bowl was still hanging and it was full - in fact it was overflowing and dripping. She asked her daughter why she did not carry out her instructions. The little girl said that she had taken the' ghee to the Prophet's house as instructed and brought back the empty bowl and hung it. Umm Sulaim was amazed by this mystery.
She went to the Prophet's house and told him about this strange incident. He said the little girl brought the gift which he accepted and left with an empty bowl.
Umm Sulaim swore by Allah Who sent him as a Messenger of the one True Religion that the bowl was full and dripping even then. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then told her that she should not be amazed; she had sent a gift for Allah's Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so He in turn had sent a gift for her. She should eat it and feed others also with it. Umm Sulaim says she emptied this bowl of ghee into a larger vessel. It lasted them for two months and others also ate from it.

Anas narrates that one day Abu Talhah came home and told Umm Sulaim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sounded very weak, possibly he was hungry. If there was some food in the house they could have the honour of having him over for a meal. She answered that she had some bread wrapped up in cloth. Abu Talhah went to the mosque and invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to join him.
He accepted and invited the people sitting there to join him at the house of Abu Talhah. All of them rose to go with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When Abu Talhah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this he became nervous, because he did not have enough food for so many people. When he went home he expressed this fear to his wife Umm Sulaim She smiled and told him not to worry; they would just put out all the food they had in the house. And this was what she did. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in and made a supplication to Allah for plenitude. Then he asked Abu Talhah to call in ten people from outside. So ten people came in to a satisfying meal. After they finished he asked Abu Talhah, to call in ten more. And so it went on till about seventy or eighty had taken their fill of the delicious food. And there was food still left over!
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got married to Zaynab bint Jahash, Umm Sulaim made a special dish of dates and ghee and sent it to him as a gift. And after the battle of Khaybar when he married Safiyyah it was Umm Sulaim who dressed her up as a bride. She also played a very active role in the battlefields of Islam. Anas says that in the Battle of Uhud his mother and 'A'ishah used to fill leather bottles with water and give it to the thirsty wounded soldiers. Umm Sulaim was pregnant at the time but that did not deter her in any way. She took an active part in the Battle of Hunayn as well. She carried a spear and when Abu Talhah saw this he told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. He asked her why she was carrying a spear. She answered that if any enemy soldier came before her she would slit his belly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled at her spirit.
Anas reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit them often. When someone asked him for the reason, he said he felt pity for her ever since he saw her brother, Haram bin Milhan killed before his eyes. His last words have become immortal in Islamic history. He said,
"I swear by the Sustainer of the Ka'bah I have become successful."
His brother Sulaim bin Milhan also was martyred in the same battle.

In Sahih Muslim, the Book of Fada'il talks about the beads of perspiration of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One afternoon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit Umm Sulaim; she was out and he dropped off to sleep white waiting for her. When she came home she found him sleeping and in the heat his perspiration was dripping on a small piece of leather. She was very happy to see him in her house and started collecting the beads of perspiration in a small bottle to preserve them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up to find her doing this. He asked her what she was doing. She replied she was collecting the drops of his perspiration to put them into some perfume. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed on a road or street he left a trail of perfume in the atmosphere and people would sense that he had passed that way.

When Anas realized he was dying he made a will that some of these drops should be added to the water with which his body would be bathed.
On the occasion of the final pilgrimage, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shaved his head, Abu Talhah collected his hair and took it back to Al-Madinah. There he gave it to Umm Sulaim to preserve it. She put it away safely as a memento.
Anas mentioned that one day when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), visited their house he took a drink of water from a leather bowl kept in the courtyard. His mother cut out the section that his lips had touched and preserved it as well.
On another occasion when he visited them Umm Sulaim offered him dates and ghee. He said she should put them away as he was fasting that day. He stood in a corner of the room to pray, then he spent a long time making supplications to Allah to bless the members of the family both in this world and the next. Umm Sulaim then requested him to pray for her son. He prayed so long for his welfare both here and in the Hereafter that Anas felt he must have asked Allah for the best possible good for him in both this world and the next.
"Allah will be pleased with them and they with Him." [Noble Quran 98:8]

Fulfilling the Obligation to thank Allaah for the Day and the Night

Allahumma maa ‘asbaha bee min ni’matin, ‘aw bi’ahadin min khalqika faminka wahdaka laa shareeka laka, falakal-hamdu walakash-shukr.

O Allaah, whatever blessing has been received by me or anyone of Your Creation is from You alone, You have no partner. All praise is for you and thanks is to You.
When you say this in the evening, you should say:
Allaahumma maa ‘amsaa bee..: “O Allaah, as I..enter this evening…”
Whoever recites this in the morning, has completed his obligation to thank Allaah for that day; and whoever says it in the evening, has completed his obligation for that night.

The Importance of Suhur

A suhoor(pre-dawn meal) is more important than Iftaar (breaking of the fast)because it helps the fasting person persevere through the fast.

Suhoor is so called because it happens at the time of sahr, which is the end of the night.

‘Amr Ibn al-Aas reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The distinguishing feature between our fast and the fast of the People of the Book is in the eating at the time just before dawn.” [Muslim]

‘Abdullah Ibn Haarith said that one of the Sahabah (companion) said: ‘I entered the house of the Messenger (SAW) whilst he was taking the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), and he (SAW) said: “Indeed it (the Suhoor) is blessing that Allah has given to you so do not leave it out.” [An-Nasaaee and Ahmad]

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree said that the Messenger (SAW) said: “Eating the Suhoor is blessed. Do not neglect it even if you take a gulp of water, because Allah and His angels invoke blessings upon those who partake in the pre-dawn meal.” [Ahmad].

It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Eat suhoor, for in suhoor there is blessing.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1923; Muslim, 1095.

It was narrated from Jaabir that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever wants to fast, let him eat something for suhoor.” Narrated by Ahmad, 14533; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2309.

What to eat during suhoor

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best suhoor for the believer is dates.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2345); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Suhoor is a blessed meal, so do not omit it, even if one of you only takes a sip of water, for Allaah and His angels send blessings on those who eat suhoor.” Narrated by Ahmad, 11003; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3683.

The best time for suhoor

It was narrated that Zayd ibn Thaabit (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “We ate suhoor with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) then he went to pray.” I [the narrator] asked, “How long was there between the adhaan and suhoor?” He said, “As long as it takes to recite fifty verses.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1921; Muslim, 1097.
