English Translation of Al-Quran
[05] Surah Al-Ma'idah [The Table Spread With Food]
Ayat 25. He [Musa PBUH (Moses)] said: "O my Lord! I have power only over myself and my brother, so separate us from the people who are the Fasiqun (rebellious and disobedient to Allah)!"
Ayat 26. (Allah) said: "Therefore it (this holy land) is forbidden to them for forty years; in distraction they will wander through the land. So be not sorrowful over the people who are the Fasiqun (rebellious and disobedient to Allah)."
Tafseer of Surah Al Ma'idah Ayat 25 & 26 . He said: "O my Lord! I have power only over myself and my brother: so separate us from this rebellious people!" "Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation." (Num. 14:5). According to the words in the Old Testament story, God said: "I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them," (Num. 14:12). Moses prayed and interceded. But as we are told here, (a spiritual touch not found in the Jewish story), Moses was careful to separate himself and his brother from the rebellion. 26. Allah said: "Therefore will the land be out of their reach for forty years: In distraction will they wander through the land: But sorrow thou not over these rebellious people. The punishment of the rebellion of these stiff-necked people, rebellion that was repeated "these ten times", (Num. 14:22 ) and more, was that they were left to wander distractedly hither and thither, through the wilderness for forty years. That generation was not to see the Holy Land . All those that were twenty years old and upwards were to die in the wilderness: "your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness." (Num. 14:29). Only those who were then children would reach the promised land. And so it happened. From the desert of Paran they wandered south, north, and east for forty years. From the head of what is now the Gulf of 'Aqaba, they travelled north, keeping to the east side of the depression of which the Dead Sea and the river Jordan are portions. Forty years afterwards they crossed the Jordan opposite what is now Jericho , but by that time Moses, Aaron, and the whole of the elder generation had died, (Cf. 5:68).

English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah cid:image003.gif@01D2B84B.CE423870 [SAWW](PBUH) said, "O son of Adam, if you spend the surplus, it will be better for you; and if you retain it, it will be evil for you. You will not be reprimanded for storing what is enough for your need. First of all spend upon those who are your dependents.''

Lesson: The Muslims have been allowed, rather emphatically told and commanded, to possess as much wealth as could meet their personal and family needs. Yet, they have also been advised to spend the spare money on the needy. Man has been told that it is unwise on his part to be niggardly about money because it spawns unfavorable results in this world as well as in the Hereafter. The concentration of wealth within a few hands freezes its vitality and leads to corruption in society. As for the Hereafter, the result of stinginess will be definitely bad as the Qur'an says: "The things which they covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection.'' (3:180) Some `Ulama' are of the opinion that after the payment of the annual Zakat (poor-due), it is not necessary to spend more. But to be accurate, if somebody pays Zakat and yet retains enough money with him, and there are some needy people also in his knowledge, then he will be bound to spend on them. At-Tirmidhi quoted a Hadith in which Messenger of Allah cid:image003.gif@01D2B84B.CE423870 [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Indeed there is a right (for poor) in the wealth in addition to Zakat.''
