[06] Surah Al-An'am [The Cattle]
Ayat 7. And even if We had sent down unto you (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH), a Message written on paper so that they could touch it with their hands, the disbelievers would have said: "This is nothing but obvious magic!"
Tafseer of Surah Al An'am (The Cattle) Ayat 7. If We had sent unto thee a written (message) on parchment, so that they could touch it with their hands, the Unbelievers would have been sure to say: "This is nothing but obvious magic!" A Qirtas , in the Prophet's life, could only mean "parchment," which was commonly used as writing material in Western Asia from the 2nd century B..C. The word was derived from the Greek, Charta’s (Cf. Latin, "Charta"). Paper, as we know it, made from rags, was first used by the Arabs after the conquest of Samarqand in 751 A.C. The Chinese had used it by the 2nd century B.C. The Arabs introduced it into Europe; it was used in Greece in the 11th or 12th century, and in Spain through Sicily in the 12th century. The Papyrus, made from an Egyptian reed, was in Egypt as early as 2500 B.C. It gave place to paper in Egypt in the 10th century (Cf. 17:93). The materialists want to see actual physical material things before them, but if such a thing came from an unusual source or expressed things they cannot understand, they give it some name like magic, or superstition, or whatever name is in fashion, and they are not helped at all in attaining faith, because their "hearts are diseased" (2:10).
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "My parable and that of yours is like a man who kindled a fire. When it has illuminated all around him, the moths and grasshoppers began to fall therein. He tried to push them away, but they overcame him and jumped into it. I am catching hold of your waists ties (to save you) from fire, but you slip away from my hands".
[Muslim Book 030, Chapter 06, Hadith # 5672].
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-An'am Ayat 7. And even if We had sent down unto you (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH), a Message written on paper so that they could touch it with their hands, the disbelievers would have said: "This is nothing but obvious magic!" This Hadith mentions the extreme kindness which the Prophet (PBUH) had for the welfare of his followers. It also mentions the misfortune of those who would become the fuel of Hell for not accepting Islam in spite of the utmost affection and ardor of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) to bring them in the fold of Islam. People who fail to accept Islam would fall in the Hell-fire in the same way moths fall in the fire.
