Mother

" Mother "
A Man Once Asked The Prophet Sallalahu Alaihe Wassalam To Whom He Should Show The Most Kindness.
The Prophet Replied :
" Your Mother,
Next Your Mother,
Next Your Mother,
And Then Your Father."
(Sunan of Abu-Dawood)

“ Heaven Lies Beneath The Feet Of Your Mother ”

What is The Big Deal About Mothers Anyway ?

Well Let’s See…
She Carried You in Her Womb For Nine Months.
Then She Gave You Birth Which is The Most Painful Thing Ever!
She Stayed Up For You All Night.
She Looked After You When You Were Sick.
She Loved You Endlessly.
She Nurtured You.
When The World Turned its Back On You,
She Was The Only Person There To Support You.
You Have To Do Nothing To Gain Her Love And Affection Because Her Love And Affection is Always There No Matter What.
Free Of Cost !
She Scolds You Because She Loves You And Wants The Best For You.
She is Always Trying To Protect You And That’s Why She Doesn’t Want You To Be Out Late At Night.
That’s Why She Doesn’t Want You To Hang Out With Certain Types Of People.
 If You Think About it,
 it All Makes Sense.
You Say She Doesn’t Understand.
Well Then...
MAKE HER UNDERSTAND !
Talk To Her And Make Her Feel Loved As Well.
After All She Has Done For You,
 She Deserves it !
One Thing You Can Always Be Sure Of is That Your Mother Will Be The Best Friend You Will Ever Have.
She Will Be Honest And Sincere.
She Will Not Expect Anything From You in Return For The Friendship
Just Your Love And Your Smiles.
When You Think You Have Grown Up,
You Think You Know The inside Outs Of Life,
You Really Don't !
That is Why Your Mother Wants To Know What is Happening in Your Life.
She Doesn’t Mean To intrude.
Rather She Wants To Be A Part Of Your Life...
Again.
To Be Your Guide,
To Be Your Mentor.
Instead Of Telling Her Off,
include Her in Your Life,
and trust me you will learn a lot from her !
You Will Come To Realize That You Have A Lot in Common With Your Mother.
From There You Can Start A Beautiful Relationship That Will Last A Lifetime And Beyond Insha’Allah !
Each Of Us Should Appreciate What We Have in Our Mothers.
They Are Our Teachers And Our Role Models.
Every day with them is an opportunity to grow as a person. Every day away from them is a missed opportunity.

Hadith (Spending on Family)

Narrated Abu Mas'ud(May Allah be pleased with him)
The Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If a man spends on his family (with the intention of having a reward from Allah) sincerely for Allah's sake then it is a (kind of) alms-giving in reward for him.

Today's Beautiful Hadith is about Lust

Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that Allah says: "A lustful look is like a poisoned arrow of Satan; whoever refrains from it out of fear from Me, I will replace it with belief whose sweetness he will find in his heart.

(Tabarani)

Sadaqah(Charity)

Narrated Asma:Allah's Apostle said, "Give (in charity) and do not give reluctantly lest Allah should give you in a limited amount; and do not withhold your money lest Allah should withhold it from you." (Bukhari)

The Necessity of Taqwa and Avoiding Riba

O you who believe! Have Taqwa of Allah and give up what remains from Riba, if you are (really) believers. And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly, and you shall not be dealt with unjustly. (2:278-279)
Tafsir (Ibn Kathir)
The Necessity of Taqwa and Avoiding Riba
Allah commands His believing servants to fear Him and warns them against what would bring them closer to His anger and drive them away from His pleasure. Allah said,

(O you who believe! Have Taqwa of Allah) meaning, fear Him and remember that He is watching all that you do.

(And give up what remains of Riba) meaning, abandon the Riba that people still owe you upon hearing this warning,

(if you indeed have been believers) believing in the trade that He allowed you and the prohibition of Riba.

Zayd bin Aslam said that this Ayah was revealed about Bani `Amr bin `Umayr, a sub-tribe of Thaqif, and Bani Al-Mughirah, from the tribe of Bani Makhzum, between whom were outstanding transactions of Riba leftover from time of Jahiliyyah. When Islam came and both tribes became Muslims, Thaqif required Bani Al-Mughirah to pay the Riba of that transaction, but Bani Al-Mughirah said, "We do not pay Riba in Islam.'' `Attab bin Usayd, the Prophet's deputy on Makkah, wrote to the Messenger of Allah about this matter. This Ayah was then revealed and the Messenger of Allah conveyed it to `Attab,

(O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from Riba (from now onward), if you are (really) believers. And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger.)

They said, "We repent to Allah and abandon whatever is left of our Riba'', and they all abandoned it This Ayah serves as a stern threat to those who continue to deal in Riba after Allah revealed this warning.

Riba Constitutes War Against Allah and His Messenger

Ibn Jurayj said that Ibn `Abbas said that,

(then take a notice of war) means, "Be sure of a war from Allah and His Messenger.'' He also said, "On the Day of Resurrection, those who eat Riba will be told, `take up arms for war.''' He then recited,

(And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger.)

Allah then said,

(But if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly) by taking the Riba,

(And you shall not be dealt with unjustly) meaning, your original capital will not diminish. Rather, you will receive only what you lent without increase or decrease.

How to know if your Ramadan has been accepted

By Tawfique Chowdhury
May Allah the great accept from us and you! You have fasted and prayed and wept and begged Allah the Great and now is your time to rejoice as His mercy and forgiveness envelopes the Universe. May Allah shower you and your family with His choicest rewards and please you on the Day you meet Him just as you are pleased today.
A lot of people ask the question: How do I know if Allah has accepted my Ramadan? How do I know that my deeds were not rejected, but accepted and written in my scale of good deeds? And you too must ask this question, since Ali radiallahu anhu said: “Do not be so concerned about the number of deeds as the acceptance of it.
Do you not remember what Allah the great said?
Verily Allah only accepts from the pious. [AlMa'idah: 27]

The answer to that, is simply: That your relationship with Allah after Ramadan is better than your relationship with Him before Ramadan. That you feel and act closer to Allah in Shawwal than you did in Shabaan. This strengthening of your relationship with Allah, is a feeling of the heart as well as from the action of the limbs.

The feeling of the heart, is that you see Allah’s signs in creation, and feel His authority and mercy and blessings in your life and thus draw nearer to Him by constant remembrance of Him. Ibnul Qayyim rahimahullah said: “The more that you witness the magnificence of His Lordship and the meagerness of our servitude to Him, and the more you learn about Allah and His greatness and about your soul and its meagerness, it will become manifestly clear to you that that which you have put forward from your offerings is not the least bit suitable for the Lord of Truth, even if you were to offer the deeds of all of Mankind and Jinn together. As a result, you would be full of fear how your measly offerings would ever be acceptable to Him. However, it is out of His honour and nobleness and graciousness that He accepts it. On top of that, He even rewards you for it, by His grace, nobleness and honour!” [Madarij As-Salikeen (2/439)] Glory be to Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful!

And that you draw closer to Him through your actions. That you feel the need to turn to prayer so you resolve to pray at the earliest time, that your heart wants to come back to the mosque so you make every attempt to pray in congregration, to open the Quran even on the day of Eid or start memorizing - so you make every effort to read it frequently, that you desire and miss the taraweeh and so make the resolve to continue to pray tahajjud and that you miss the fasts, so you resolve to do the 6 days of Shawwal. Then you remember the hadeeth of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam:

“If the Prophet used to do any action, then he used to stick to it (i.e. make it a habit).” [Reported by Muslim]

Based on this, you resolve to make good habits out of the bootcamp that Ramadan provided so that good deeds become second nature to you.

Remember, if you want to get that special Ramadan feeling in your heart again, then take a path to gaining knowledge.

“Whoever Allah wants good for, then He gives him the fiqh of this religion.” [Reported by AlBukhari]

This is the surest sign that Allah accepted your Ramadan, that after it, you are more knowledgeable about Islam than you were before it. Islamic knowledge is now more accessible to you than ever before. So, make every effort to attend courses, read books and listen to lectures so that you draw closer to Allah every day. There is an AlKauthar course in your city, just around the corner, so make sure you attend it. Once you have gained that knowledge, then act upon it by calling to Allah through all those projects that are working on helping Allah deen. Mercy Mission has a project that you can get involved in or help you to launch your own.

Lastly, I hope to see you all soon in an event near you. Glory be to Allah that He has given us life until the end of this Ramadan, may Allah give us all the opportunity to see the next Ramadan and protect you and your families and all Muslims till then. Ameen.

Recitation of Quran

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari:The Prophet said, "The example of him (a believer) who recites the Qur'an is like that of a citron which tastes good and smells good. And he (a believer) who does not recite the Qur'an is like a date which is good in taste but has no smell. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who recites the Qur'an is like the Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who does not recite the Qur'an is like the colocynth which tastes bitter and has no smell." (Bukhari)

What's Next After Ramadhan

lHamdulillahi Wa kafaa, was-Salatu was-salamu `alaa `ibaadihi-lladheena Stafaa
We leave the blessed month of Ramadan, its beautiful days and its fragrant nights. We leave the month of the Qur'an, taqwa, patience, jihad, mercy, forgiveness and freedom from hellfire…
Have we fulfilled the requirements of taqwa and graduated from the Ramadan school with the diploma of the god-fearing.
Have we fought our souls and desires and defeated them, or have we been overtaken by our customs and blind imitations?
Have we performed our actions in a way that fulfills the conditions for receiving mercy, forgiveness and release from the Fire?
Many questions and numerous thoughts come to the heart of the sincere Muslim, who asks and answers with truthfulness.

What Have We Gained From Ramadan?

Ramadan is a school of iman and a 'stop to recharge one's spiritual batteries' - to acquire one's provision for the rest of the year...

For when will one take a lesson and change for better if not in the month of Ramadan?

The noble month is a true school of transformation in which we change our actions, habits and manners that are in variance with the Law of Allah 'azza Wa jall.

Verily, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. Ar-Ra`d, 11

If you are from those who benefited from Ramadan, fulfilled the requirements of taqwa, truly fasted the month, prayed in it with truthfulness, and strove against you soul, then praise and thank Allah, and ask Him for steadfastness upon it until you meet your death.

Be not like one who has sewn a shirt and then destroyed it... Have you seen one who sewed a shirt or thawb, so when she looked at it, she liked it. Then she destroyed it pulling a thread by thread for no reason. What would people say about such a person?! Or have you seen one who earns a fortune trading throughout the day, then when the night comes, he throws away all that he earned, dirham by dirham. What would people say about such a person?!

This is the condition of one who returns to sinning and evildoing after Ramadan and leaves obedience and righteous actions. So after he was favored with the blessing of obedience and enjoyment of communicating with Allah he returned to the blaze of sins and evil actions. How evil are the people who know Allah only in Ramadan!

My dear ones,

Falling short in one's commitment to Islam after Ramadan is manifested in many ways, including:

1 – Men leaving the five prayers in congregation, after they filled mosques for Taraweeh prayers, thus going to the masjid for recommended prayers and leaving obligatory ones.

2 – Return to musical entertainment, forbidden films, women displaying their adornment beyond that which ordinarily appears thereof, free mixing etc.

This is not thankfulness for blessings and favors, nor is it the sign of acceptance of one's actions, rather this is opposition to favors and absence of thankfulness.

These are from signs of one's deeds not being accepted – and Allah's refuge is sought – for one who truly fasts rejoices on the occasion of `eid, praises his Lord for helping him complete the fast, and remains fearful that Allah may not accept his fasting, just as the Salaf would continue asking for acceptance of their actions in Ramadan for six months after it.

From signs that one's deeds are accepted is that he or she has improved in his or her obedience to Allah `azza Wa jall.

And remember when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]… Ibrahim, 7

Increase you in good, faith and righteous actions. So if the servant is truly thankful to his Lord, you will see him guided to more obedience and distanced from sinfulness. Thankfulness is leaving sins, as the early Muslims said.

And worship your Lord until there comes you to the certainty [I.e. Death]. Al-Hijr, 99

The Muslim must continuously be in the state of obedience of Allah, firm upon His Sharee`ah, steadfast upon His Deen, so that he or she is not of those who worship Allah only during one month or only in one place. Rather, the believer knows that the Lord of Ramadan is also the Lord of other months, and that He is the Lord of all times and places, so he is steadfast upon the Sharee`ah of Allah until he meets Him while He is pleased with him. Allah at`Ala said,

So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allah]. Hud, 112

So take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness. Fussilat, 6

And the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi Wa sallam, said,Say 'I believe in Allah', then be steadfast. Muslim

-- If the fasting in Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary fasting, such as fasting six days in Shawwal, on Mondays and Thursdays, the three days in the middle of the month, the days of `Aashoora and `Arafat, and others.

-- If standing in prayer at night during Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary night prayer throughout the year.

They used to sleep but little of the night. Adh-Dhaariyaat, 17

-- If the charity in Ramadan and zakat ul-fitr have ended, then there is the obligatory Zakat, and also there are many other open doors to charity, voluntary actions and jihad.

-- Reading of the Qur'an and contemplating it is not only for Ramadan, rather it is for all times.

Righteous actions are for all times and all places, so strive – O my brother and sister – and beware of laziness. And remember that it is not allowed for us to leave the obligatory actions or delay them, such as the five daily prayers on time, in congregation etc.

And do not fall into forbidden actions, such as forbidden sayings, food and drinks, or by looking at or listening to what is forbidden.

Be steadfast and upright upon the Deen of Allah at all times, for you do not know when you'll meet the Angel of Death. Beware of him taking you while you are in a state of sin. “O Allah, Who turns the hearts, keep our hearts steadfast upon Your Deen.”

I ask Allah to accept from us and you our fasting, our prayers and other righteous actions, that our condition after Ramadan be a better one, that the state of our Ummah improves, that we are granted honour and that we truly turn to our Lord…Ameen

Graduating after Ramzan

We leave the blessed month of Ramadan, its beautiful days and its fragrant nights. We leave the month of the Quran, taqwa, patience, struggle, mercy, forgiveness and protection from punishment on the day of judgment.

Many questions and numerous thoughts come to the mind of the sincere Muslim, who self reflects with truthfulness.

Have we fulfilled the requirements of taqwa and graduated from Ramadan school with the diploma of God-consciousness?

Have we fought our souls and desires and defeated them, or have we been overtaken by our customs and blind imitations?

Have we performed our actions in a way that fulfills the conditions for receiving mercy, forgiveness and release from chastisement?

What Have We Gained From Ramadan?

Ramadan is a school for strengthening iman (faith), an opportunity to recharge one's spiritual batteries and to acquire one's provision for the rest of the year.

The noble month is a true school of transformation in which we train our inner self to change our actions, habits and manners that are in variance with the Laws of Allah. "Verily, God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves." (Quran 13:11)

If you have fulfilled the requirements of taqwa (God-consciousness), fasted the month, prayed in it with sincerity, and strove against your soul, praised and thanked Allah for all His blessings, and asked Him for steadfastness then you have benefited from Ramadan.

After the end of this blessed month, to revert back to habits of before Ramadan would be like one who stitches a beautiful garment and then deliberately destroys it. Or a person who earns a fortune trading throughout the day, then when the night comes, he throws away all that he earned. What would people say about such a person?

This is the condition of one who returns to ill habits after Ramadan and leaves righteous actions. After he was favored with the blessing of obedience and enjoyment of communicating with Allah he returned to ignorant actions. How deprived are the people who know God only in Ramadan!

Falling short in one's commitment to Islam after Ramadan is manifested in many ways, including: Leaving the compulsory prayers, after they filled mosques for Taraweeh prayers, thus going to the masjid for recommended prayers and leaving obligatory ones, and a return to a life of material and social indulgence without God-consciousness.

This is not thankfulness for blessings and favors, nor is it the sign of acceptance of one's actions, rather this is opposition to favors and absence of thankfulness.

From signs that one's deeds are accepted is that he or she has improved in his or her obedience to Allah. "And remember when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" [Quran 14:7]. So if a person is truly thankful to his Lord, you will see him guided to more obedience and distanced from actions that are disliked by God.

A Muslim must continuously be in the state of obedience and God-consciousness. A believer knows that the Lord of Ramadan is also the Lord of all times and places.

"So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allah]." [Quran 11:112]

Continue Fasting

-- If the fasting in Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary fasting, such as fasting six days in Shawwal, on Mondays and Thursdays, the three days in the middle of the month, the days of Aashoora and Arafat, and others.

Continue Prayers

-- If standing in prayer at night during Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary night prayer throughout the year.

Continue Charity

-- If Zakat, charity and zakat ul-fitr of Ramadan have ended, then there is the option of sadaqa, and many other doors to charity and voluntary actions still remain open.

Continue Quran

-- Reading of the Quran and understanding it is not only for Ramadan, rather it is for all times.

Continue Good Deeds

-- The requirement of showing forgiveness and compassion to people does not end with Ramadan. Know that Allah is the most forgiving and companionate and loves all who are forgiving and companionate.

Righteous actions are for all times and all places, so strive and beware of laziness.

"O Allah, Who turns the hearts, keep our hearts steadfast upon Your prescribed path."

I ask Allah to accept from us and you our fasting, our prayers and other righteous actions, that our condition after Ramadan be a better one, that the state of our humanity improves, that we are granted honor and that we truly submit to our Lord. Ameen

Surah Al-Qasas

A beautiful woman who wanted to get married!!!

There was this beautiful woman, who wanted to get married, but she wanted a very pious husband, so she said that she’ll marry the man
1. who recites the whole Quran every single day,
2. fasts for the whole year and
3. stays awake and worships Allah all throughout the night.

She was a very beautiful woman, and a lot of suitors wanted to marry her, but they knew they couldn’t fulfil the conditions she set. Until this one man stepped forward and said he could fulfil them. So the Imam got both of them married. After the first night of the marriage, the wife sees that the husband doesn’t recite the whole of the Quran, nor does he fast, nor does he stay awake in the worship of Allah, she decided to let it roll on for a few weeks to see if there were any changes, there weren’t, so she filed a complaint and asked for a divorce.

They are both taken in front of the judge, and the judge asked, ‘What were the conditions of the marriage?’ the man replied ‘They were for me to recite the whole Quran daily, keep fast for the whole year and to worship Allah all throughout the night.’ The Judge asked, ‘ did you fulfil them? The man calmly answered, ‘…yes.’ The judge answers, ‘you lie, your wife has said that you don’t, that’s why she’s asking for a divorce’.

1: But the man insisted that he had fulfilled the conditions, so the judge asked, ‘did you recite the full Quran everyday?’ The man answered yes. The Judge, baffled asked, ‘how? How can you do that?’ The man coolly answered, ‘I recite Surah Ikhlas three times a day and according to Prophet MuHammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), reciting Surah Ikhlas three times is equivalent to reciting the whole Quran.’

2: The Judge was intrigued, so he asked, ‘how did you fast the whole year?’ The man answered, ‘ I fasted for the whole month of Ramadan, then kept another six fasts in the month of Shawwal, according to Prophet MuHammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), keeping all of the fast of Ramadan then keeping six fasts in the month of Shawwal, is as if you have fasted for the whole year.’

3: The Judge remained silent, he couldn’t give a reply saying the man was wrong, so finally he asked, ‘ how did you stay awake all night and worship Allah, when your wife saw you sleeping?’ The Judge thought the man wouldn’t be able to answer this one, but the man, cool as a cucumber answered, ‘I prayed Salatul Isha with jamaat, then the next day prayed Salatul Fajr with jamaat, according to Prophet MuHammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the one who prays Salatul Isha and Salatul Fajr with jamaat, it is as if he had stayed up all night worshipping Allaah.’

The Judge sat there looking at the man; the final verdict was about to be released… He said to the man and his wife, ‘…go, just go, there is nothing wrong with this marriage’… (:

Beautiful Dua for Muslimah

O Allah! Please grant me the one
Who will...
be the garment for my soul
Who will satisfy half of my deen
And in doing so make me whole

Make him righteous and on your path
In all he'll do and say
And sprinkle water on me at Fajr
Reminding me to pray

May he earn from halal sources
And spend within his means
May he seek Allah's guidance always
To fulfill all his dreams

May he always refer to Qur'an
and the Sunnah as his moral guide
May he thank and appreciate Allah
For the woman at his side

May he be conscious of his anger
And often fast and pray
Be charitable and sensitive
In every possible way

May he honor and protect me
And guide me in this life
And please Allah! Make me worthy
to be his loving wife

And finally, O Allah!
Make him abundant in love and laughter
In taqwa and sincerity
In striving for the hereafter!

Beware of OverEating

By Shaykh Saalih ibn al-Fawzaan
An explanation of a hadeeth on the adab of eating.  A look into the harms that can arise from overeating and how it can effect a person’s religion and health

Thus, it is incumbent upon an individual to take heed of this prophetic moral and to not be excessive when it comes to eating or his desires. In addition to this, if a person reaches a point where he is extremely greedy regarding food then it is likely that the halaal will not suffice him, hence he will set out seeking the haraam so he can fulfill his (evil) cravings.

In the name of Allaah, the Most Beneficent, Bestower of Mercy,
Hadeeth #1476: On the authority of al-Miqdaam ibn Ma'deekarib, radiyallaahu 'anhu, who said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "No child of Aadam ever filled a vessel more destructive than his stomach."1

Explanation:

In this hadeeth is a prohibition from eating to one's fill and indulging excessively in the luxuries of the worldy-life. The Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "No child of Aadam ever filled a vessel more destructive than his stomach." That is because if he fills his stomach it will harm him tremendously with regards to his religion and his health.

With regards to his religion: It will hinder him from the obedience of Allaah and cause him to be sluggish concerning the performance of acts of worship. It will also make him burdensome (upon himself) and inclined towards sleep. It will have a negative effect upon his heart and afflict it with laziness, obscurity, lack of attention and incompetence.

With regards to his health: The doctors have mentioned that overeating inherits many diseases. Likewise when a person always fills himself with food it urges him to behave and act barbaric and arrogantly. However if he is hungry then this will more likely prompt him to behave humbly and passively.

If he reduces his intake of food and drink, this will motivate him to be lenient and meek. On the other hand if he stuffs himself, this will incite him to act viciously, recklessly, haughty and cause him to chase after (his) evil desires. Every time he desires something he goes, gets and eats it. Nothing concerns him except his stomach and evil desires. This is something reprehensible and it (overeating) brings about many chronic diseases. It could well bring about a disease that could kill him; all due to overeating.

Therefore, eating to one's fill is detrimental to a person’s religion, worldly-life and health. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Sufficient for the son of Aadam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it is a must, then one-third for his food, one-third for his drink and one-third for air.” [This is the rest of the hadeeth of al-Miqdaam, radiyallaahu 'anhu]

The Shaykh continues: So if he were to fill his whole stomach and not leave any space for drink nor air then this is very harmful as the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: "No child of Aadam ever filled a vessel more destructive than his stomach."

So in filling one's stomach (i.e. eating to one's fill) there are many harms and evils that stem from it. So it's a must that one decreases his consumption of food even if he desires it, as the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, place a third for (each) his food, drink and air. This is what the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) advised us with (i.e. eating in this manner).

Praying in Congregration(Jamaat)

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):

Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "If the people knew what is the reward of making the call (for the prayer) and (of being in) the first row (in the prayer), and if they found no other way to get this privilege except by casting lots, they would certainly cast lots for it.

If they knew the reward of the noon prayer, they would race for it, and

if they knew the reward of the morning ( i.e. Fajr) and Isha prayers, they would present themselves for the prayer even if they had to crawl to reach there. (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Foul Language

"What the ----------!"

"Hey you, ----------, how are you?"

"Where in the -------- have you been?"

If you listen to the conversation of the average Muslim youth talking to each other, unfortunately this is what you will hear.......expletives, bad words and cusses. In fact, foul language is often heard as part of their everyday life at school, universities and work place.

Whats worse is that they use these words without thinking.....without remorse and without even realizing that these words are obscene, filthy or repulsive....using four letter words in every sentence and in every conversation.

Using the words hell and calling each other dog and gay like its nothing. And these are some of the more decent words. There are other, much worse words that are totally unmentionable. May Allaah protect us.

These people, like their non-Muslim peers, seem to be completely desensitized to the use of foul and offensive words, including many that make others cringe with shame and embarrassment.

Yet, when you reprimand them for using such language, what do they say? "O come on! This is how everyone talks!" or "This is how I express myself. or "We dont mean it in a bad way, were just joking around with each other!"

Subhaan Allaah!

Calling each other bad names and using foul language!

Since when did that become a joke? Since when did cussing become part of a Muslims vocabulary?

And, sad to say, not only the youth, but even some of the adults are guilty of the same. And, there are some, who may speak very decently under normal circumstances, but when they are provoked or they get into a fight with someone, nothing comes out of their mouths except cusses, bad words and filth.

What a stark contrast between this and what the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to do.

The behavior of the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam)

Anas bin Malik said: "The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) was not one who would abuse (others) or say obscene words, or curse (others)..." (Bukhaari)

And Abdullah bin Amr said: "The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) never used bad language neither a Faahish nor a Mutafaahish. He used to say The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character. (Bukhaari)

And he (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: “The believer is not a slanderer, one who curses a great deal, one who indulges in obscenity or who in engages in foul talk.” (Tirmidhi-- saheeh by al-Albaani)

What Allaah says about cussing:

".....nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult ones brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zaalimoon (wrong-doers). (Surah Hujaraat:11)

Hellfire because of cussing:

Realize, dear brother/sister, that using foul language and cussing is a sin, even in joke and this is a characteristic of the people of Hellfire.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:

"The inmates of Hell are of five types...." And among them he mentioned "...the miser, the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene and foul language." (Muslim)

And while advising Muaadh, (RA), the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: “Restrain this,” i.e., your tongue.

I (Muaadh) said: O Messenger of Allaah, will we be called to account for what we say?

He said: “May your mother be bereft of you, O Muaadh! Will people be thrown in Hell on their faces or their noses for anything other than the harvest of their tongues?” (al-Tirmidhi-- Saheeh by al-Albaani)

The worst people on the Day of Judgment

Know that people who use bad words and have dirty mouths will be one of the worst people on the Day of Judgment.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: "O Aaishah! Have you ever seen me speaking a bad and dirty language? (Remember that) the worst people in Allahs sight on the Day of Resurrection will be those whom the people desert or leave in order to save themselves from their dirty language or from their transgression." (Bukhaari)

Cussing is evil

Cussing and swearing is so bad that even the angels cannot tolerate it.

Ibn Abbas said, "Two men defamed one another in the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. One of them reviled the other who remained silent. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, remained seated. Then the other man answered him back and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, got up. He was asked, "You got up?" He said, "The angels left, so I left with them. While this man was silent, the angels were answering the one who cursed him. When he answered, the angels left." (Adab al-Mufrad)

It is a sin

Someone asked:

"What should be done with a person who calls a Muslim a dog, pig, or other offensive word? Is it a sin?"

Imaam an-Nawawi said: "It is a sin and he should be punished (tazeer – punishment to be specified by the qaadi/Muslim judge). He also has to repent." (Fataawa al-Imaam al-Nawawi)

Subhaan Allaah! Being punished for calling your Muslim brother dog! And yet, we hear our youth calling each other dog and nigga and much worse, in every sentence, while they think nothing, absolutely nothing of it!

What would Imaam an-Nawawi say if he heard some of the Muslims talking today?!!

What to do?

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: "Whoever believes in God the Last Day must speak good or keep silent." (Bukhaari)

1. Remember these beautiful words of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) and either speak good or keep quiet.

2. Stay away from foul language, cussing and evil words, because YOU are a Mumin and a Mumin does not utter filthy words or cuss at anyone.

3. Equally important is to stay away from people who speak such bad language. Because the more you hear it, the more desensitized one becomes to its evil, until a time comes when its not bad anymore.

In the end

Bad words show disrespect to those being spoken to and a total lack of self-respect. The one who stays away from filthy language is not being a prude or old-fashioned; rather he /she is a Mumin and a follower of the one with the best manners ever...that is, the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). Use of such evil words is disrespectful, plain and simple. It is not to be tolerated nor is it an acceptable behavior in Islam.

"Truly a man utters words to which he attaches no importance, and by them he falls into the Fire of Jahannam, and truly a man utters words to which he attaches no importance, and by them Allah raises him into the Garden." (Bukhaari)

Not a word does he (or she) utter but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it) (Surah Qaaf:18)

Things to do on Eid Day

1. Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.

It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta and elsewhere that Abd-Allaah ibn Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta 428.
Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.

The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumuah and other public gatherings. Rather on Eid the reason is even stronger.

2. Eating after the prayer on Eid al-Adha

On Eid al-Adha it is mustahabb not to eat anything until one comes back from the prayer, so he should eat from the udhiyah if he has offered a sacrifice. If he is not going to offer a sacrifice there is nothing wrong with eating before the prayer.

3. Prepare all clothes, maps, etc. one day in advance

Looking for the map of how to get to the Eid prayer area once you are in the car headed there is not a good idea. You may discover its missing with time running out. Thats why you need to check that you have all the necessary information about how to reach your destination one day in advance.

Similarly, all clothes should be ironed the night before, since there may not be time the day of Eid, or there may be too much of a rush for the iron.

Setting the Eid table should also be done in advance, especially considering its Eid and you want the table to look nice. Its hard to do that when you're in a rush to get to Eid prayers on time.

4. Share childrens responsibilty

Decide which kids will go with which parent the day before Eid prayers. Too often, fathers dump the entire responsibility for taking care of the children on mothers shoulders. The situation often becomes unmanageable as moms may not be able to watch all of the kids. Fathers need to take some of this responsibility.

One way of doing this is by separating the siblings who fight the most. Another is by keeping the girls with mom and the boys with dad. Every family is unique so parents will have to decide how to split up the kids. Regardless of how its done, the point is to reduce disruption for parents and for others and to keep the kids in tow.

5. Talk to the kids about proper behavior

Explain to them before going that while Eid is a time of happiness, fun and celebration, it is not appropriate to run, jump, shout and play hide-and-seek with other kids at the prayer place. Throw in an enticing reward (i.e. a promise to go out for ice cream or the park later that day if they behave) may also encourage kids to save the fun and games for after prayers.(keep in mind the promised reward should be fulfilled later on)

Also explain that they must sit still and be quiet during the explanation of the prayer, during the prayer they should do act what others are doing and the Khutbah that follows they should remain quiet. Advise them to whisper in Mommy or Daddys ear if they need anything and must talk to them.

6. Take a bag to put your shoes in

This way, you can freely move around if necessary to straighten up your line in prayer, since you wont be worrying about where you have put your shoes.

7. Take your Musallas with you to pray

Although arrangements are usually made to have a sheet or paper to pray on, encourage everyone in your family to bring their own, just in case.

8. Say the Takbirat in the car (during travelling)

In particular, have the younger kids lead it with everyone else following. This way, their energy and excitement will dissipate and they won't be so hyper at the Eid prayer place.

9 Going to the prayer by one route and returning by another.

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Eid, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to vary his route. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 986.

It was said that the reason for that was so that the two routes would testify for him on the Day of Resurrection, for the earth will speak on the Day of Resurrection and say what was done on it, both good and bad.

10. Go in the first line of prayer

For men, this is the best place to be if you want to catch the Imams explanation of prayers, his Khutbah, as well as any other announcements.

Sadly, its also the place where there is a greater chance prayer lines will be straight (things just start to deteriorate further down in the back). This is a tendency in both the men and womens sections.

11. Be quiet while the Imam is explaining how to pray

If Maryam, a new Muslim sister, is trying to understand how to do the Eid prayer, she cant exactly do that if Hafsa on her right is gabbing incessantly with her friends. Out of respect for others, we should be silent or at least whisper if necessary so we dont disturb others who are trying to understand how to do the Eid prayer.

12. Straighten your lines in prayer

Make sure to stand shoulder to shoulder and in straight lines facing the Qibla for the Eid prayer.

13. Be quiet during the Khutbah

After the Eid prayer, the Imam will give a brief Khutbah. It is highly encouraged to stay and listen to it. Even if we do have to get up and leave, we should do so as quietly as possible so as not to disturb those who are listening.

14. Greet those whom you know and those you dont

Say Salam and hug the person next to you once the Khutbah is over. Isnt it ironic that we stand so physically close to someone in prayer (shoulder to shoulder) but completely ignore them once its over? Hug your prayer neighbor and at least wish them Eid Mubarak.

Abdullah ibn Amr narrated that a man once asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what aspect of Islam was the best, and he said: You should provide food, and greet both those you know and those you do not (Bukhari, Muslim).

15. Contribute to the arrangement of the Eid prayers

Some places may pass around a box or bag seeking donations to cover the cost of renting the Eid prayer place. Give generously, since it normally costs thousands of dollars and the more the Muslim community gives, the faster Eid prayer organizers can pay back the amount.

But this should be given either before the imam starts the khutbah or after the eid prayers.

16. Get the family to help out with clean up

See if the family can volunteer to help clean up the prayer area after everyone has left. This is also a time when you may see Muslims who dont have family in the community or are new Muslims. Greet them and invite them over or at least inform them of any upcoming Eid activities.
