[05] Surah Al-Ma'idah [The Table Spread With Food]
Ayat 42. (They like to) listen to falsehood, to devour anything forbidden. So if they come to you (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH), either judge between them, or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they cannot hurt you in the least. And if you judge, judge with justice between them. Verily, Allah loves those who act justly.
Tafseer of Surah Al Ma'idah Ayat 42. (They are fond of) listening to falsehood, of devouring anything forbidden. If they do come to thee, either judge between them, or decline to interfere. If thou decline, they cannot hurt thee in the least. If thou judge, judge in equity between them. For Allah loves those who judge in equity. Devouring anything forbidden: both in a literal and in a figurative sense. In the figurative sense, it would be: the taking of usury or bribes, or taking undue advantage of people's weak position or their own fiduciary powers to add to their own wealth. Where it is merely a trick to catch out the unwary, a just man may honourably decline to interfere in a cause submitted to him, as also in a case where the parties are not honestly desirous of justice, but each hopes that some partiality will be shown to it.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "You will find on Day of Resurrection the worst among the people, a double-faced person who appears to some people with one face and to others with another face.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
as explain in another Hadith Narrated by Hazrat Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Man who keep two faces in his life (means showing off what he is not, like a very religious person from outside wearing all the accessories but in his heart an Cruel person wearing attire to gain worldly profits instead of serving Allah [SWT] cause) , On the Day of Resurrection he will have 2 tongue of fire in his mouth.
[Sunan Abu Dawood]
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ma'idah Ayat 42. (They like to) listen to falsehood, to devour anything forbidden” A "double-faced person'' is one who makes a group believe that he is their supporter and well-wisher, but when he goes to the opposite group, he tries to make them believe that he is entirely with them. The best among people is one who goes to every group and earnestly tries to reform it.
