[05] Surah Al-Ma'idah [The Table Spread With Food]
Ayat 07. And remember Allah’s Favour upon you and His Covenant with which He bound you when you said: "We hear and we obey." And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All Knower of the secrets of (your) breasts.
Tafseer of Surah Al Ma'idah Ayat 7. And call in remembrance the favour of Allah unto you, and His Covenant, which He ratified with you, when ye said: "We hear and we obey": And fear Allah, for Allah knows well the secrets of your hearts. There is a particular and a general meaning. The particular meaning refers to the solemn Pledge and Covenant taken by two groups of people at 'Aqaba, a valley near Mina, the first about fourteen months before the Hijrah, and the second a little later. These were Pledges of fealty to the Messenger of Allah, comparable to the Covenant under Mount Sinai taken in the time of Moses, (see 2:63). The general meaning has been explained in 5:1: man is under a spiritual obligation under an implied Covenant with Allah; Allah has given man reason, judgment, the higher faculties of the soul, and even the position of Allah's vicegerent on earth (2:30), and man is bound to serve Allah faithfully and obey His will. That obedience begins with cleanliness in bodily functions, food, etc. It goes on to cleanliness of mind and thought, and culminates in purity of motives in the inmost recesses of his heart and soul.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Successful is the one who enters the fold of Islam and is provided with sustenance which is sufficient for his day's needs, and Allah makes him content with what He has bestowed upon him.''
[Muslim Book 05, Chapter 40, Hadith # 2293].
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ma'idah Ayat 07. fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All Knower of the secrets of (your) breasts” The real success of a man will be measured by his being blessed with Divine mercy and forgiveness in the Hereafter, and this is contingent on Islam alone. If he lacks the wealth of Islam, all the worldly possessions will not ensure his success in the next world. This Hadith tells us that richness is not to be defined in terms of a lot of belongings, and that the real richness is gauged by the contentment of the soul.
